The Lasting Beauty of Phalaenopsis Orchids!

Nowadays there are many different species of orchids for one to choose from. There are Phalaenopsis, Cymbidiums, Oncidiums, Cattalayas, Dendrobiums, and many other exotic orchids. Many of them are so hard to choose from but one of the deciding factors other than the way the orchid looks is how long the orchid lasts. For some reason the Phalaenopsis last a very long time and in many cases longer than other orchids. I have had Phalaenopsis orchids last for three to four months. It seems to be the combination of careful watering and some morning sun that creates a long lasting environment for Phalaenopsis to thrive. All we can say is that we are very glad there are so many orchids to choose from and that many, including Phalaenopsis, last so long to enjoy!

THE BEAUTY OF CYMBIDIUM ORCHIDS!

Today I saw some incredible Cymbidium orchid plants. They came into season about a two months ago. Of all of the orchid plants, this is one of my favorites! Whether it is the minature or the large Cymbidiums–they all capture your attention! Besides being beautiful, these plants are sturdy and regal–they almost call out to you–notice me! Another great thing about Cymbidiums is that they are a long lasting orchid–sometimes one to three months, depending on watering and lighting! They also make an impressive gift! When a large Cymbidium orchid shows up at the door it is not only impossible to ignore it BUT hard to deny it’s amazing beauty! Enjoy!

Our New Venture!

Orchids are definitely our passion! We are constantly amazed at how beautiful they are and the different varieties that appear almost monthly! Sometimes when we are at the orchid nursery we just look around in amazement at the beauty Mother Nature has created!

But even though orchids are our passion, we appreciate and love flowers as well! With that said, we are launching a new floral website: www.beverlyhillsflowercompany.com This site has been in the works for quite a while and is not quite finished BUT you can still view it and order if you like! We wanted to announce it anyway–we are excited about it!

My Orchid Buying Spree!!

Today I went to the orchid nursery to buy orchids for clients and was amazed at all of the beautiful orchids available for sale. It is really amazing what Mother Nature creates. There were so many beautiful Phalaenopsis in a variety of different colors. Cymbidiums are back in season displaying colors of green, cream, and rust–amazing! The beautiful yellow oncidiums catch your eye because they are so vibrant and the tall double spike oncidiums are striking to say the least!

This is an interesting business and I am glad to be part of it. Hopefully, there are others out there that enjoy the beauty of orchids–whether they raise them, receive them as gifts, or give them as gifts. Orchids are a great gift for the holidays because they are a “living gift” and they last.

Stay tuned for more orchid information as I travel from different growers in search of the perfect orchid (in many ways they are all perfect). Thanks……..Mike www.orchidexpress.com

I HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN PLANTS AND FLOWERS MY WHOLE LIFE. I STUDIED ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE AND WENT INTO THE FLOWER BUSINESS. I WORKED FOR A VARIETY OF “TOP NOTCH” FLORISTS IN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES. EVENTUALLY, I STARTED MY OWN ORCHID BUSINESS WWW.ORCHIDEXPRESS.COM . THIS WEBSITE HELPED TO CHANGE MY LIFE–NOT ONLY FINANCIALLY BUT GAVE ME AN INDEPENDENCE TO PURSUE WHAT I REALLY WAS INTERESTED IN–ORCHIDS AND FLOWERS! SOON, I WILL HAVE TWO FLORAL WEBSITES CATERING TO THE BEVERLY HILLS AND MALIBU CROWD. IT IS AN EXCITING TIME AND I HOPE TO SHARE IDEAS AND PHOTOS OF MY EXPERIENCES AND TRAVELS IN THE “FLOWER WORLD”. THANKS FOR TAKING A LOOK–THERE IS SO MUCH TO FOLLOW–STAY TUNED……..MIKE

Welcome from the LA Orchider

Welcome OrchidHi there and welcome!

I have been working with flowers for most of my life and have recently taken the big step of opening my own flower delivery business in Los Angeles. A friend convinced me that it would be interesting to start a blog right now to document this exciting and scary time. Come join me as I scout out the best and most beautiful flowers around town, grow my business and clientelle, and race around this amazing city bringing fresh blooms to the masses. Beyond that journey, my goal is to create an LA based resource for those interested in horticulture here in Southern California. Beyond orchids, we can make most anything grow in our climate, and I will be here to help you learn how.

So, wish me luck and come back now and then to say hi!

 Thanks,

 Mike - ”The LA Orchider”
